WOW! So much has happened in the last 7 weeks. First I want to apologize for taking so long to post. But the good thing is that there is alot of really cute pictures attached.
Dakota Wyatt was born on 4-17-08 at 5:30pm, in High Point, NC. If we rewind a little, you will see the whole picture. Monty had gone into the hospital on 4-16 to have a couple of blockages removed from his legs. Part of the procedure required that he stay overnight to be monitored. Well as some people might have guessed, my water broke at midnight while Monty was in the hospital. I didn't freak out, but I knew it would take some planning to get us both to the same hospital in time for Dakota's arrive. After talking to my midwife, I agreed to come in the next morning if I didn't have any major contractions. So at 9am the midwife confirmed I was 3 cm and suggested I go walking to help move labor along. I was all for walking and moving things along, but Monty had not arrived yet. When Monty finally arrived, I checked myself into the hospital. After 8 hours of active labor, Dakota was born healthy and screaming.
I was ready to go the next morning and had signed both of us out. We were just waiting for Monty to come get us (again). The nurse came in and said they had not performed the standard jaundice test. His billirum level showed that he was jaundiced, so they would not release Dakota from the hospital. So he had spend the next day under the lights, where I was only allowed to hold him for 30 minutes every three hours. It was really tough, but the hospital allowed me to stay as a guest while he was there. (As a guest they would allow you to stay in the room like a hotel guest.)
Fast forward to his first doctor's appointment a week later. His billirubim is up again. The doctor sends out what are called "Billi Lights" which are designed to help clear up Dakota's jaundice. After 4 more days of lights and poor Dakota getting stuck everyday, his billirubim levels have come down. Because his billirubim levels went back up again 2 days later, the doctor had him admitted to Brenner's Children Hospital. Dakota's billirubim levels came down while in the hospital for 2 days. Without getting "bent out of shape" about his hospital visit, I will just say that it just took Dakota's liver longer to develop and process the billirubim. He is now home and a healthy 9lbs and 11ozs.
Five days after Dakota got home from the hospital, Monty was re-admitted to finish the original procedure he went in for. He is fine now and his legs feel much better.
Also in the last month we had to buy a new car because my favorite Durango was about to die. We have down-sized to a cross-over car called a Suzuki SX4. We got a great deal and we finally have great gas mileage. But I miss my roomy and sturdy Durango. Wrestling the stroller in out of the car has proved to challenge my patience. We also were blessed to have my mom Lynne visit and help out for three weeks. My dad and step-mom Becky came to visit just recently and brought with them a much needed gift, a home PC. We have finally moved into the 21st century with cable, internet and a webcam. We are greatful for all the gifts, support and help from all my family, Lori at work and my great friend Lizz.
We couldn't have done it without you,
Lisa
