We made it! He is one year old and I have not gone insane:) I am still sleep deprived. The first 7 months were pretty close to a nightmare, but the last 3 months have been really neat. I really look forward to the next few years. I love toddlerhood and watching little ones learn new skills. When we are asked if we will have another baby, Monty will say no without skipping a beat. I say maybe in a few years. I would be happy being a foster parent. Enough about the parents, on to the most important part- DAKOTA.
WOW! He has just changed so much in the last month. He is fully walking now. He can get up from a sitting position and start walking. He is currently working on climbing on items and kicking moveable objects. He gives the best hug around the neck that just make my heart smile. He gives the best kisses that are full of slobber. Dakota is still obsessed with dogs. A couple of weeks ago, I took him to a local dog park. He loved being able to pet all the friendly dogs. He especially likes to give his dog Jenny "loves", when he can catch her. He is extremely shy and plays bashful very well. Lately he seems to have some serious seperation anxiety, which is typical for his age. Dakota is sooo smart though. He watches Daddy do his morning routine, everyday. So much so that Dakota wakes Daddy up before his alarm. He is under Daddy's feet all morning. Dakota even brings Daddy his shoes when asked. We are so amazed at his memory and interest in doing adult activities. Of course with all the smarts and interest in doing new task comes the frusteration/challenge of accomplishing the task. He has the shortest temper and is not patient for anything. We just found out that he does not like the swimming pool. Hopefully more visits to the pool will change that.
We have celebrated his birthday twice now. The first time was with other April baby friends and the second time with just Mom and Dad. He was such a ham eating his cake with us. First he put his face in the cake and then he turned and laughed at Daddy. He was all done with the cake after two bites. He prefers his Rice Dream ice cream over anything else sweet. I enjoyed making Dakota his natural cake and I am currently pondering whether to make it a tradition. I look forward to all the new things I get to share and experience with Dakota.
